Ways to help

The fund is empty. Here's how we refill it.

We've paused new awards until there's money to award. Everything on this page is a way to shorten that pause, and none of it takes long.

Where things stand

Every grant we've made came from a donation.

There's no endowment behind this and no government funding. When the donations run out, the grants stop, and that's where we are right now. The board has paused new applications rather than collect them and sit on them.

Veterans who came to us during the pause are on a list. The day the fund reopens, they get an email telling them to apply. Every $400 raised is one more of those emails we get to send.

Give directly

The fastest thing on this page. A gift of any size goes into the same fund every grant is paid from, and as a 501(c)(3) it's tax-deductible.

  • $400 is one veteran's full year of help: the electric bill, or groceries and a tank of gas.
  • $50 is a grocery gift card for a family that ran out of month before they ran out of bills.
  • Zelle, Venmo, PayPal, and Givelify all work, one-time or monthly. Monthly is what lets the board say yes in a slow month.

Ask your employer to match it

Many companies match what their employees give to nonprofits, often dollar for dollar. It usually takes one form and a few minutes, and it doubles what your gift does here. Most matches go unclaimed simply because nobody asks.

  1. Search your benefits portal or intranet for "matching gifts" or "workplace giving." If you can't find it, ask HR directly.
  2. Send them the request below. Attach the receipt from your donation; the confirmation email from PayPal, Givelify, or your bank works.
  3. If they need anything else from us, send them through our contact form and we'll answer the same way we'd answer you.

We have no advertising budget, so word of mouth is the whole strategy. If you know someone who gives to veterans' causes, or a business owner, or a VFW or American Legion post, this is the ask that reaches them.
